Alonzo ( Lonnie ) Murphy was born February 27, 1894 and entered into eternal rest November 20, 1976.  Brother Lonnie was a devoted father and Christian.  He was a member of Long Branch Church for years.  He was a peacemaker and a minister of the Gospel.  Many times I have gone to him for counseling.  His advice always started with; “Well, Brother Joe,” then his advice was always good.  I have known this brother all my life.  I have never heard him speak evil of any man.

The church has lot a faithful brother.  The family has lost a wonderful father.  A seat is vacant in our church which can never be filled.  He cannot come back to us, but to the family and friends we can go to him.  My prayer is for the family to make preparations to meet Dad over yonder.  I’m sure he is looking for you.  Written by: Joe Johnson.

One of his favorite songs was:

Take your burdens to the Lord and leave it there.

Brother Lonnie often said, “Don’t talk about anyone, unless you can say something good, because if you look deep enough you can always find good in a person.”  He liked to travel and go to different churches.
